Background: The present study aimed to assess the possible effects of using mobile phones during pregnancy on headaches and migraines in children and adolescents.

Objectives: Migraine and Headache Symptoms are attributed to Radiofrequency (Cell Phones and Television) in Children. It is worth noting that recent studies have not been able to indicate a convincing causal relationship with Radiofrequency.

Methods: The current meta-analysis, organized based on the PRISMA statement, was performed by searching the relevant articles published in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus. Original articles published in English from inception until April 1, 2023, were retrieved in this study. The quality of the articles included in the systematic review was scored based on the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale.

Results: A heterogeneity test was performed for headaches (children, adolescents, and both groups) and migraine. Considering that the chi-square test result was not significant (P>0.05), the results of the fixed model were reported. Based on the reported results, the odds ratio estimate of the meta-analysis of children's headaches in the Fixed model was equal to 1.51. Furthermore, the results of the meta-analysis demonstrated that the odds ratio of headache in adolescents was 1.48, and in both groups (children and adolescents), it was 1.51. The meta-analysis on migraine, with only two studies in this field, was equal to 1.52.

Conclusion: As evidenced by the obtained results, exposure to radiofrequency was related to migraine and headache symptoms. There are no high-quality randomized control trials (RCTs) and/ or multiple consistent non-RCTs without methodological flaws.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, systemic, inflammatory disease classically affecting the small joints of the hands and feet.

Objectives: The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of emotion regulation training based on the Gross model on the psychological well-being and sleep quality of women with psychosomatic disorders (rheumatic and joint pains).

Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted based on a pretest-posttest design and a control group. The statistical population of this study consisted of all women with psycho-physical disorders in Farahan City, among which 40 individuals were selected through the convenience sampling method and then randomly allocated to either the experimental or control group) n=20 each (. The required data were collected using the Ryff Psychological Well-Being and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Emotion regulation techniques were taught using Gross’s standard training protocol in eight 90-minute sessions, while the control group was on the waiting list. The data were analyzed using the analysis of covariance in SPSS-23 software.

Results: The study’s results indicate that instructing women with psychosomatic disorders on how to handle their emotions using the Gross model can greatly enhance their mental health (P<0.01). Moreover, the findings from the analysis of covariance revealed that Emotion Regulation Training based on the Gross model led to enhancements in sleep quality in women with psychosomatic disorders (P<0.01).

Conclusion: The outcomes of this study have the potential to enhance the overall well-being and sleep quality of individuals experiencing rheumatic and joint pains.
</Abstract>

Background: Pediatrics with atrioventricular septal defects (AVSDs), especially the complete AVSD, have significant morbidity and mortality due to dangerous postoperative complications.

Objectives: We introduce a novel modified technique for complete atrioventricular septal defect repair with two years of follow-up.

Methods: After the cardiopulmonary bypass was established, we first measured the ventricular septal defect's width and the chordae tendineae length that are adjunct to the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve to the interventricular septum. The ventricular septal defect was then repaired in two separate stages with the biologic pattern of mitral and tricuspid valves, with the Bovine patch.

Results: Echocardiographic findings immediately after surgery and two years of follow-up revealed good left ventricular function, besides no residual atrial septal or ventricular septal defect. Also, the findings showed no evidence of mitral regurgitation and LVOT obstruction.

Conclusion: The novel technique in patients with complete atrioventricular septal defect repair accompanied by more minor postoperative short-term and long-term complications.

</Abstract>

Background: TThis study compared the efficacy of citalopram and escitalopram in treating depression among patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis.

Methods: This double-blind clinical trial was conducted on 46 patients diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. The depression rating scale used was the Hamilton Depression Questionnaire. Patients were randomly assigned to two groups: the citalopram group (n=24) and the escitalopram group (n=22), and they underwent a 6-week treatment. Drug side effects were assessed and recorded at the conclusion of the study period. Demographic variables such as age, gender, duration of depression, duration of dialysis, marital status, and educational level were also collected. The data were then analyzed using statistical tests.

Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of gender distribution (p=0.404), marital status (p=0.155) and educational level (p=0.329). Also, no significant difference was found between the mean variables: age (p=0.478), duration of depression (p=0.485) and duration of dialysis (p=1.000). There was no significant difference between the mean depression score before treatment in the two groups (p = 0.107) and after treatment in the two groups (p = 0.412). But the mean depression score after treatment compared to before treatment was significantly lower in both groups (p=0.000). Also, no significant difference was found between the frequency of drug side effects in the two groups (p=0.292).

Conclusion: According to results, it can be concluded that both drugs have been shown to improve depression in in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis and are not different in their efficacy and side effects.

Trial registration: IRCT20200304046698N1

</Abstract>

Background: Emerging evidence suggests a link between the Val66Met polymorphism of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and an increased risk of neurobehavioral disorders (reference here). The present study aims to elucidate the potential relationship between this genotype and the predisposition to amphetamine and opiate dependencies among the Iranian Azeri population. Through rigorous analysis and comprehensive genetic profiling, this research endeavors to contribute valuable insights into the complex interplay between genetic factors and substance dependency in this specific ethnic group.

Methods: A cohort of 150 participants was recruited for this study, consisting of 133 males and 17 females in the treatment group, alongside 100 controls, comprising 74 males and 26 females. Genotyping procedures utilized PCR-RFLP genotyping.

Results: Comprehensive analysis revealed no statistically significant differences in the distribution of genotypes and alleles of the BDNF gene polymorphism (rs6265) between the case and control cohorts. The control group’s GG and AA genotypes were higher than the case group’s, while the control group’s AG genotype was lower than the case group’s, but statistically significant difference was not showed (p > 0.05).

Conclusion: The outcomes of this rigorously designed study fail to substantiate a significant correlation between the Val66Met polymorphism of the BDNF gene and the susceptibility to amphetamine and opiate dependency. This finding adds a new piece of the puzzle to our understanding of genetic predispositions in substance dependence.

Background: Cancer, particularly colorectal cancer, is a growing global public health issue with a significant impact on individuals aged fifty and older. Viola odorata, a traditional herbal remedy, has been investigated for its potential anti-cancer effects, particularly in inhibiting the metastasis of certain cancer cell types.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effects of Viola odorata extract on the malignant characteristics of colorectal cancer cell lines HT-29 and HCT-116.

Methods: Samples of Viola odorata were collected from five different geographical locations in Iran. The chemical composition of the extracts was analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the concentration of polyphenols and flavonoids was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The hydro-alcoholic extract was then used to treat HT-29 and HCT-116 colorectal cancer cell lines. Apoptosis, migration, colony formation, and cell viability were assessed and compared.

Results: Treatment with Viola odorata extract induced apoptosis in both HT-29 and HCT-116 cell lines. The extract also significantly reduced cell migration and colony formation. Cell viability was markedly decreased, with HCT-116 cells showing greater sensitivity to the extract than HT-29 cells.

Conclusion: Viola odorata extract demonstrated anti-cancer activity against colorectal cancer cell lines, with a more pronounced effect in HCT-116 cells. These findings suggest that Viola odorata may be a promising therapeutic agent for targeting colorectal cancer cells, especially at higher concentrations, and its efficacy appears to be cell-dependent.

Background: Ophthalmological emergencies typically present with symptoms such as visual loss, diplopia, ocular motility impairment, or anisocoria. Acute vision loss is a frightening manifestation for both patients and physicians which can occur as one or both eyes involvement. It is a common manifestation in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and the most common cause is optic neuritis (ON). ON is almost always unilateral in subjects with MS and simultaneous bilateral ON has been rarely reported.

Case Presentation: Here, we report a case of a female patient with a history of MS, who presented with simultaneous bilateral and progressive vision loss. ON in this patient did not respond dramatically to high doses of intravenous methylprednisolone. So, she received intravenous humanized monoclonal anti-CD20 antibody therapy (Ocrelizumab).

Conclusion: This report aims to introduce a very rare case, with regard to the key points for evaluating patients with acute visual loss in the emergency department.
